Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam are pleased to announce that another of its players has signed a contract to play in an international league. Guard Scott Freymond has signed on to play for one of the top teams in Mexico's first division, the Xalapa Falcons of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP).
Freymond, an Elma High School and Central Washington University standout, averaged 11.6 points and 7.2 assists per game as the Slam's starting point guard last season. Freymond also became the only Slam player to record a triple-double in a game, accomplishing the feat four times in a 28-day span in January and February.
Prior to joining the Slam, Freymond spent the summer of 2006 playing in Mexico's second division with the Cananea Miners, where he appeared in 19 games, averaging 20.4 points per game before being sidelined with a broken ankle.
Freymond's new team, located near the resort town of Veracruz on Mexico's eastern coast, begins play in September with a 34-game schedule that runs through January. Last season, Xalapa came within one game of winning the LNBP Championship, losing in seven games to the Mexicali Suns.
The Bellingham Slam recently announced that it will play in the International Basketball League for the 2008 season after participating in the American Basketball Association for the previous two seasons.
