Slam Rout Japan 161-78 for Fourth Straight Win

BELLINGHAM, Wash. "" The Bellingham Slam made quick work of the Japan Tornadoes, 161-78, in an International Basketball League contest at Whatcom Pavilion on Friday evening.

The game set team records for fewest points allowed and also for greatest margin of victory at 83 points.

The outcome of the game was revealed within the first three minutes as the Slam completely outmatched the Tornadoes and scored the first 11 points of the game. Bellingham went on to take a 40-22 lead at the first quarter break.

The dominance continued throughout the second quarter, with the Slam extending their lead to 78-44 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same, with Bellingham continuing to pour in buckets, maxing out their third quarter advantage at 62 points and at 83 points after Chas Kok hit a three-pointer with 27 seconds left.

Kok enjoyed his finest performance of his two-season Slam career, leading all scorers with 34 points on 14-of-19 shooting from the floor and six three-pointers. Blake Poole finished with another double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds. Every Slam player figured in the scoring, and all but two scored in double figures.

Hikaru Saskaki led the Tornadoes with 30 points, while Takato Hara added 22.

The Slam stay at home for their next two games, with a rematch against Japan looming on Friday, May 17. That game will be played at Lynden High School with a 7 p.m. Scheduled tip-off.
