Bellingham Slam News Release
EDMONTON, Alta. -- Outstanding post play by Blake Poole and Michael Duty helped propel the Bellingham Slam to a 129-95 victory over the Edmonton Energy on Saturday at the Van Vliet Centre on the campus of the University of Alberta.
The pair of rookies combined for 43 points and 19 rebounds and allowed the Slam to avenge a loss to the Energy the previous night.
Unlike Friday night, Edmonton started off the game hitting their shots and built a 10-point lead, at 23-13, late in the first quarter.
But the Slam rallied in the second quarter, scoring the period's first 14 points to take a 31-23 lead with 8:23 left in the half. Bellingham led 50-44 at the break.
In the third quarter, the Slam twice extended their lead to 14 before settling for a 80-71 advantage going into the final frame.
Any chance of an Energy comeback was stymied by a lack of discipline in the quarter, as they were whistled for four technical fouls, including two against their head coach Skousen Harker, leading to his ejection. The Slam put up 50 points in the quarter, the third-most in team history.
Poole led the Slam with 25 points, and was followed closely by Jacob Stevenson, who finished with 23. Poole and Duty, who had 18, both enjoyed career-high nights on the scoresheet.
Quinnel Brown led five Energy players in double figures with 18 points.
The two teams battle again in the conclusion of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon, with a 2 p.m. tip-off set for the Van Vliet Centre.
