Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The backcourt combo of Jacob Stevenson and Ryan Diggs combined to score 68 points as the Bellingham Slam came from behind to defeat the Snohomish County Explosion, 116-106, in an International Basketball League game at Bellingham High School in Friday.
Diggs and Stevenson each scored 34 points to share game-high honors as Bellingham used a strong second half to earn the victory and take a 2-1 advantage in the season series against Snohomish County.
Down four midway through the third quarter, the Slam used a 8-0 run to establish their first lead since the early stages of the second quarter. Both teams battled for the lead well into the fourth quarter, with the Explosion taking a two point lead, at 92-90, with 6:51 left to play in the game. But the Slam scored the game's next nine points to re-establish the lead and they never looked back after that. Bellingham's solid free throw shooting down the stretch thwarted any chance of a comeback for Snohomish County.
Stevenson and Diggs highlighted five double-digit scoring efforts for the Slam. Lukas Henne contributed another double-double with 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Jamie Booker paced five Explosion players in double figures with 19 points. Justin James provided a solid double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Slam continue their homestand on April 11 when they welcome the Portland Chinooks to town. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
