Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam will look to rebound from a rare loss as they take on their rivals, the Snohomish County Explosion, in an International Basketball League divisional match-up on Friday at Whatcom Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Slam are coming off a heartbreaking 114-111 loss to the Explosion in Monroe last Saturday. Bellingham had battled back to take a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, only to see Snohomish County battle back with hot perimeter shooting. The Explosion won the game at the free throw line in the game's dying seconds after the Slam held a one-point lead with under a minute left.

Bellingham will look to contain the IBL's leading scorer, Devon Greene, who comes into Friday's game averaging 41.3 points per game. Greene scored 37 points against the Slam in their last game, and was an important part of the Explosion's fourth quarter comeback.

The Slam will look to Tyler Amaya to lead the Slam's offense, after the former WWU forward scored 24 points and pulled down 20 rebounds against the Explosion. After returning from a groin injury three games into the season, Amaya is averaging a team-leading 22.7 points per game.

The Slam will be without guards Jacob and Jared Stevenson, who were both suspended following a post-game incident at Snohomish County. Jared was assessed a two-game suspension, while brother Jacob will miss one game. Jacob will be back in the line-up when the Slam travel north to take on the Vancouver Titans in Langley, B.C. on Saturday.
