Bellingham Slam News Release
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - The Bellingham Slam let an 11-point halftime lead slip away as they fell to the Portland Chinooks, 132-129, in a frenetic International Basketball League game at the 212 Sports Complex in Clackamas, Ore., on Saturday night.
Morris Anderson gave the Slam a 69-58 halftime lead with 16 first half points, but Portland chipped away at the deficit and took the lead at 94-93 with an Everett Spencer field goal with 1:03 left in the third quarter.
Portland continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter, building their lead as high as ten before the Slam began their comeback. Bellingham was able to methodically trim the deficit as the fourth quarter progressed, but was not able to get closer than two, at 130-128 with 2:42 left.
The Slam had a chance to force overtime on their final possession of the game, but missed a pair of three-point tries as time expired.
In a gritty contest, both teams finished the game with no eligible players remaining on their respective benches after being whistled for a combined 59 fouls.
Anderson led the Slam with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while Drew Ready finished with 26 points.
Everett Spencer and Ryan Scott led Portland with 36 and 33 points, respectively.
The Slam return home to conclude the regular season with a game against the Oregon Waves, with a 5 p.m. tip-off set for Whatcom Pavilion. The game will be broadcast live on KPUG-AM 1170 and online at www.kpug1170.com.
The Slam will need a win on Sunday to secure the number one seed at next week's IBL Playoff Tournament in Bellingham.
