Bellingham Slam News Release
VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam used solid team play en route to a 128-115 victory over the Vancouver Volcanoes at the O'Connell Sports Complex on Friday.
The Slam consistently found the open man and made the extra pass on offense, and racked up 32 assists as a team.
The victory was the first for the Slam in Vancouver since the 2009 season, and spoiled a festive night for the Volcanoes in which the 2011 title-winning team received their championship rings.
After a competitive first quarter, the Slam used a 15-4 run to close the half and took a 63-49 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Slam were able to extend their lead to over 20 on several occasions, before Vancouver countered to reel in the deficit. But Bellingham was always able to respond on the offensive end and the lead never dipped into single digits.
The Slam (10-1) were led by guard Morris Anderson, who scored 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Center Blake Poole enjoyed another strong outing with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Vancouver (7-4) was led by the 33 points from guard Andre Murray and 22 from forward Alex Hartman.
The Slam get little rest as they immediately return home to face the Salem Soldiers on Saturday, in a special home game at Blaine High School. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KPUG-AM 1170 and online at www.kpug1170.com.
