Bellingham Slam News Release
EDMONTON, Alta. - The Bellingham Slam couldn't take advantage of a big first quarter lead as they fell to the Edmonton Energy, 129-107, in an International Basketball League game at the University of Alberta on Friday.
The Slam opened the game on fire, racing out to a 34-14 lead in the first 10 minutes. But the Energy rallied to close the gap to two points, at 65-63, heading into halftime.
It was virtually all Edmonton in the second half, as they opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to take the lead for good and went on to lead by 15, at 92-77, in the frame's middle stages.
Despite playing the fourth quarter with just seven available players, the Slam were able to trim the deficit to seven, at 104-97 with 7:13 left, but the Energy responded with a 12-0 run that put the game permanently out of reach.
Lukas Henne led six Slam players in double figures with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Blake Poole finished with 19 points and team-high nine rebounds.
Curtis Nash led Edmonton with 26 points.
The two teams battle again in the middle game of their three-game set on Saturday, with a 7:30 p.m. Tip-off set for the Van Vliet Centre at the University of Alberta.
