VANCOUVER, Wash. -The Bellingham Slam came out on the short end of a defensive slugfest as they fell to the Vancouver Volcanoes, 94-86, in an International Basketball League game at the O'Connell Sports Complex on Sunday.
The Slam opened the game with some stingy defense and led 25-15 at the first quarter break before Vancouver used a 13-2 run midway through the second to take a 46-42 lead into halftime.
Thedefensive themecontinued into the second half, with both teams combining for just 44 points in the third quarter as the game was tied at 66 going into the fourth.
The game was tied still, at 82-all, with 3:32 left in the game, before Vancouver broke the deadlock and closed the contest with a 12-4 run to account for the final outcome.
Forward Chas Kok and guard Jacob Stevenson shared the scoring lead for Bellingham with 19 points each.
Guard Paul Hafford led six Vancouver players in double figures with 16.
The Slam return home to face the Kitsap Admirals on Friday, April 26. A 7 p.m. tip-off is scheduled at Whatcom Pavilion.
