Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam, riding a three-game winning streak, entertain the Vancouver Volcanoes on Friday night in an International Basketball League contest at Whatcom Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
The game will be a rematch of the 2008 IBL Western Conference championship, which the Slam won, 120-106, to advance to the IBL championship game against Elkhart.
The game will also offer an opportunity for Bellingham to hand an opponent their first loss of the season for the second consecutive game. Last Saturday, the Slam were victorious over the previously-undefeated Vancouver Titans, 138-111, in a game which saw forward Tyler Amaya return to the lineup and lead all scorers with 29 points.
The Volcanoes come into Friday's contest with a 2-0 record after a pair of victories at the IBL's Spring Showcase tournament earlier this month. So far this season, the Volcanoes have featured a balanced scoring attack, with guard Clifford White leading nine players in scoring double figures with 27.0 points per game.
Amaya's 29 points last Saturday immediately put him at the top of the Slam's leading scorer list, with guard Jake Linton in second at 19.0 points per game. Linton, the NCAA's career free throw percentage record holder, has started the 2009 season perfect, going 24-for-24 from the line. Forward Lukas Henne has been a dominating presence on the boards, averaging a team-leading 11.0 rebounds through the Slam's first four games.
Following Friday's game, the Slam head south to Monroe on Saturday for the first of two games this season against the Snohomish County Explosion. Tip-off is at 7:15 p.m. at the Monroe Sports Arena.
After this weekend's back-to-back games, the Slam return to Whatcom Pavilion on May 1 as they again take on the Explosion at 7:00 p.m.
