Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash.- The Bellingham Slam have one last regular season game before the start of the International Basketball League playoffs, as they welcome the Tacoma Tide to town on Friday. A 7 p.m.tip-off is set for Whatcom Pavilion.
The game will give the Slam a final tune-up before they head to the IBL postseason tournament next week, which is being held this season in Portland, Ore.
On Friday, the Slam will be closing out a regular season that, by their standards, has been below par. The team has suffered two losses at home for the first time in three seasons, and has seven losses overall in 2010, although six of those setbacks have been by three points or fewer. In 2009, Bellinghamfinished the regular season with a 16-4 record.
Friday's game will pit the Slam (11-7) against a Tacoma Tide team that has seen their share of struggles in 2010 with a 6-15 record, though they have beaten the top-ranked Olympia Reign twice. The Slam holds a 3-0 advantage in games over the Tide this season and will be going for the series sweep on Friday.
The Slam will have a number of players looking to solidify their rankings among the IBL's statistical leaders with strong performances on Friday. Jacob Stevenson is currently ranked fifth in points with 28.6 per game and sixth in assists with 6.4 per game. Ike Ohanson is currently second in rebounding with 11.4 boards per game, and Morris Anderson is fifth in assists with 6.5 per game.
Friday's tilt could also prove to be a playoff preview, as it appears the Slam are slated to play either the Tide or the Oregon Waves, who the Slam dispatched with a 39-point win last Sunday, in the first round according to the latest rankings on the IBL's website.
