BELLINGHAM, Wash.-The Bellingham Slam will conclude a three-game homestand Friday as they face the Oregon Waves in International Basketball League action. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.at Whatcom Pavilion.
The Slam are back on the court after splitting a pair of home games last weekend. They fell to the West Coast Hotshots, 139-134, in Lynden on Friday before dispatching the Olympia Reign on Saturday by a score of 115-100. Second-year guard Derrick Webb had his best game in a Slam uniform against Olympia, scoring 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
The Oregon Waves come into Friday's match-up in the midst of an eight-game road trip that has seen them drop their last three games after a 3-0 start to the season. The Waves fell to the Olympia Reign, 120-112, on Tuesday.
Posting a 5-2 record through the first seven games of the season, the Slam have been led by the tandem of guards Jacob Stevenson and Paul Hafford, who are averaging 20.7 and 19.3 points per game, respectively. Stevenson's point total places him third in the IBL in scoring amongst those who have played at least five games. At the point guard spot, Morris Anderson has been enjoying a fine sophomore campaign, averaging 15.3 points and 6.9 assists per game. Also, rookie center Blake Poole has been dominant under the basket, pulling down an average of 11.6 rebounds per game, good for third-best in the IBL.
On Friday, the Slam will be offering a discounted $5 admission price to all WesternWashingtonUniversitystudents, faculty, staff and alumni as part of the school's Back 2 Bellingham alumni weekend. Those affiliated with the university can receive the discount by showing their Western IDor alumni association card at the Whatcom Pavilion box office prior to the game.
Following Friday's game, the Slam will play a three-game set in Edmontonnext weekend and won't return back to Whatcom Pavilion until May 27, when they face the Vancouver Volcanoes.
