Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -The Bellingham Slam are ready to close out the 2011 International Basketball League regular season after enduring a ten day layoff, their longest break between games all season.
On Tuesday, the Slam will head south to face the Olympia Reign in their final road contest of the season. It will be a re-match of their last game, an easy 121-96 win over the Reign in Olympiaon June 11.
The Slam are expecting a much tougher challenge this time around, as they embarrassed the Reign the first time out on their home floor of Evergreen State College. With Olympia's defense offering little resistance, the Slam blasted out to a 20-point lead early in the second quarter and led by as much as 40 in the second half.
In their most balanced offensive showing of the season, eight Bellinghamplayers scored in double figures, with center Blake Poole leading the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Following Tuesday's road tilt, the Slam return to Bellinghamfor their final home game of the season on Sunday, as they welcome the Kankakee Soldiers to Whatcom Pavilion, with a 5 p.m.scheduled tip-off.
After Sunday's regular season finale, the Slam will prepare for the IBL Championship Tournament, which runs July 1-3 in Vancouver.
If Bellinghamis able to win their final two games, they still have a decent chance at securing the tournament's top seed. The Slam are currently tied for third place with Kankakee with a 12-5 record, but the first and second place teams, Albany and Edmonton, respectively, both have a number of difficult games remaining on their schedules and any losses would potentially allow Bellingham to leap-frog them in the standings.
