BELLINGHAM, Wash.-The Bellingham Slam have signed center Zach Bruce to the team's roster for the remainder of the International Basketball League season, the team announced today.
The 6-foot-8 Bruce, who recently completed his senior season at Western Washington, will add much needed depth to the post position for the Slam, after center Bryson McKenzie left the team two weeks ago.
As a senior, Bruce averaged 10.7 points and a team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game and helped guide WWU to the semi-finals of the NCAA-II West Regional Tournament in March. He ranked second on the team in both field goal shooting (55.2 percent) and blocks (21), and was named an honorable mention for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference all-star team in 2009-10.
Bruce joins his collegiate teammates Morris Anderson and Derrick Webb on the Slam roster, who have been competing for Bellinghamsince the start of the season. The addition of Bruce to the Slam continues a trend that has seen the trio compete as teammates since playing several years ago at HighlineCommunity College, then transferring together to WWU.
The Slam, 3-2 on the season, return to action after a two week break on Friday, when they face the British Columbia Titans. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.at Whatcom Pavilion.
