Slam Add Center Evan Matteson to Roster

BELLINGHAM, Wash.-The Bellingham Slam have added height and depth at the center position with the announcement that the team has added Evan Matteson to the team's roster today.

The 6-foot-10, 230 lb. center is a native of Lynnwood, Wash., and recently completed his senior season at TexasA&MInternationalUniversityin Laredo, Texas. Prior to playing at TAMIU, he suited up for one season at the Universityof Alaskaat Fairbanks.

For the TAMIU Dustdevils, Matteson enjoyed an outstanding senior campaign that saw him lead his team in scoringwith 12.6 points per game en route to a 21-7 record and first place in the NCAA Division-II Heartland Conference. He also led in three other categories, including rebounds (6.8 per game), blocks (44) and field goal percentage (58.3). His collegiate career concluded with him earning the Heartland Conference's Player of the Year award, the first time a TAMIU player has received the award.

Matteson's presence will help bolster the Slam's roster as they head into the second half of the 2012 International Basketball League season. The team, winners of eight in a row, currently sits in first place in the league and is off to their best start in team history with a 9-1 record.

After practicing with Bellingham for the last two weeks, Matteson will see his first game action this weekend as the Slam head to Vancouver, Wash., on Friday for a road contest against the 2011 IBL Champion Volcanoes at ClarkCollege.

On Saturday, the Slam head north to Blaine, Wash., for a home game against the Salem Soldiers, the only team to defeat the Slam this season. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 7 p.m.at BlaineHigh School.
