Somerset, N.J. (Tuesday, January 10, 2012) - The 2012 Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft will be held this Friday in Kansas City, and Sky Blue FC now finds itself making three of the first nine picks in the event. Following a trade with the Atlanta Beat, Sky Blue FC has acquired the fourth overall selection on Friday, sending to Atlanta its second pick of the second round (10th overall) in the 2012 WPS Draft and first round selection in the 2013 WPS Draft.

"With five teams in WPS for 2012, many feel opportunities will be limited for players coming out of the draft, but we are excited about some good players who will be available on Friday," Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra stated. "By selecting three of the top nine picks, we are expecting to get some players who will make the roster and contribute this season. It is an exciting time to add some fresh players, and there are four to six players every season who make an impact right out of college."

Following this trade, Sky Blue FC now selects twice in the opening round of the WPS Draft, with its first pick being second overall. The team makes its third selection in the second round with the ninth overall pick, and its final two selections come in the third (15th overall) and fourth (19th overall) rounds.

"Jim and I feel this is a much stronger draft than last year," assistant coach Emma Hayes remarked. "With two picks in the top four, we have a great chance to pick up two of the top players coming out this year, and that will fill our needs."

While the 2012 WPS Draft in Kansas City will be closed to the public, fans will have the opportunity to watch a live webcast of the event on www.WomensProSoccer.com. The activities are set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. EST.
