Sky Blue FC News Release
Under bright sun on a warm day on Saturday Aug. 22 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, Sky Blue FC capped an improbably run to win the 2009 WPS Championship presented by MedImmune, 1-0, over top-seeded Los Angeles Sol, which came in as the favorite having run away with the 2009 WPS Regular Season title.
Heather O'Relly earned MVP honors by scoring the match's only goal in the 17th minute and later contributing a dazzling slide tackle to dispossess Aya Miyama during a dangerous sequence early in the second half.
