Boise, ID (January 30, 2004) â Sioux Falls Skyforce guard Darrick Martin received a call-up to the Minnesota Timberwolves, it was announced today by the Continental Basketball Association League Office and the Timberwolves front office. The CBA-to-NBA call-up is the seventh overall league call-up, and the third time that Minnesota has called-up a player (Oliver Miller, Anthony Goldwire), since the 2003-04 season began on November 14.
"Darrick has been playing great basketball for us this season," stated Skyforce Head Coach Trevor Gleeson. "It is good to see that he is getting rewarded by getting back into the NBA."
In 17 games (16 started) with the Skyforce this season, Martin averaged 19.5 points, 7.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He was traded to Sioux Falls from the Yakima Sun Kings on December 20, after posting 11.3 points and 3.6 assists per contest, in three games played for Yakima.
Last season, as a member of the Sun Kings, the UCLA alum averaged 18.3 points and 6.9 assists in 20 regular season games played. In five postseason games, he posted 23.0 points and 5.8 assists per contest as he led Yakima to the 2003 CBA Title, and was named the 2003 Playoff Most Valuable Player.
Martin joins center Oliver Miller, who was called up from the Dakota Wizards on December 13, and guard Anthony Goldwire, who was called up from the Yakima Sun Kings on January 7, as call-ups to Minnesota this season. He will fill an open spot on the Timberwolves roster.
