Silverbacks return to CIFL

February 23, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release

The Miami Valley Silverbacks, who played in the CIFL the last two seasons, will replace the suspended West Virginia Wild on the 2009 schedule. The Silverbacks will play a full 12-game schedule, but will play primarily as a traveling team.

"This is something good for us, it allows us to keep the team running for the 2009 season and continue the momentum we have built since starting the team," said Silverbacks Owner Jeff Kolaczkowski. "We're proud to be able to help the league in this way and we're going to do anything we can to be an asset this year."

"We had plans to take this year off, but we are ready to be a part of the CIFL in 2009," commented Silverbacks President and Chief Operating Officer Matt King. "The Silverbacks are committed to the CIFL and we are thrilled to be able to keep the organization running uninterrupted for another season."

Details on select home dates are currently being negotiated with Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio, which has served as the home of the Silverbacks since the franchise's inception.

The Silverbacks will make their 2009 debut on March 27 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Marion, Ohio against the Marion Mayhem.

"We are going to do our best to keep a 12-game schedule in place for each of the member teams," said CIFL Co-founder Jeff Spitaleri. "Some conflicts could arise, but right now, it is our goal to make sure every team gets 12 games."

"When we were first notified of problems in Huntington, we started putting together a plan for the worst-case scenario," said Spitaleri. "This is not an ideal situation for us, but if the past years have taught us anything, it is that we need to handle these problems before the season rather than have them pop up during the year."

"The Silverbacks have stepped up and committed to replacing the Wild this season," said Spitaleri. "Jeff (Kolaczkowski) told me that the Silverbacks were more than willing to replace the Wild on the schedule."

The final revised schedule for the 2009 season will be available in the Season Schedule & Results option under the Schedules tab near the top of the CIFL homepage once it is available.

"We have to do what is best for the league, and this is what is best for the league," continued Spitaleri. "I'm not going to allow an owner to hurt the other teams in the league because he's unprepared and not ready to handle the responsibility that goes along with owning a team in the CIFL."

The scheduled contest on Feb. 27 between the Wild and Mayhem has been cancelled.
