TURFCATS 41, HURRICANES 34
AUSTIN, Tex (June 20, 2009) -- Keith Clay's 3-yard run with 56 second remaining and Mycal Catchings' fumble recovery with one second remaining lifted the Austin Turfcats a 41-34 victory over the Texas Hurricanes Saturday night. The Turfcats (6-2) erased a 20-0 first half deficit, taking their first lead at 28-27 when Deron Ellis threw a 27-yard touchdown to Robert Quiroga with 14:18 left.
Texas (1-5) regained the lead at 34-28 on Michael Bishop's 3-yarder to Roland Hayes with 10:13 remaining, but Austin tied it at 34-34 with 8:47 left on Tim Blackwell's 7-yard run.
After a missed Texas field goal, Austin drove 45 yards to take the lead. Texas moved to the Austin 5-yard line, but Catchings recovered the fumble to preserve the victory.
Five different players scored Austin's six touchdown, with Reggie Smith posting a 44-yard kickoff return and a touchdown pass from Deron Ellis, who threw two scores and ran for another.
Bishop, the 1998 Davey O'Brien award winner and Heisman Trophy runner-up, threw for 104 yards and three touchdowns - two to Joe Townsend - in his SIFL debut.
MUDBUGS 45, CRUNCH 6
LAFAYETTE, La. (June 20, 2009) -- Antonio Logan and Anthony Parks each scored two touchdowns as the Acadiana Mudbugs held the North Texas Crunch without a touchdown for a 45-6 Southern Indoor Football League victory Saturday.
Sean Samuels came off the bench after starting quarterback Bo Bartik was injured and completed 9 of 13 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Mudbugs (5-3) won their second straight game. Logan's touchdowns came in the first quarter as the Mudbugs jumped out to a 14-0 lead.
Parks, who had missed the last two games due to injury, had eight catches for 91 yards.
Defensive back Kimmie Lewis registered his SIFL best 11th interception and also caught two passes for 27 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.
John Bryant produced all the Crunch scoring with a pair of 21-yard field goals.
