Opening Round - (best-of-7)

Allen wins series over Denver, four games to one

Wichita wins series over Arizona, four games to none

Fort Worth wins series over Quad City, four games to one

Missouri wins series Rapid City, four games to two

Winning the Opener

So far in this year's playoffs, the teams that have earned the victory in Game 1 of their series are just 2-2 in the series overall. Both Denver and Rapid City won their opening game but ended up losing the series. Wichita and Fort Worth each won their opening game and each advanced. The Thunder have a 2-0 series lead in their match-up versus Fort Worth and Game 1 of the Allen/Missouri series will be on Sunday. Last season, the winner of Game 1 went on to win four of the seven post-season series'.

Power Surge

The Wichita Thunder went 2 for 2 with the man advantage in Game 1 and 1 for 5 in Game 2 of their series versus Fort Worth making them 6 for their last 12 on the power play. Wichita leads all playoff teams with a 23.3% success rate going 7 for 30 in their six games. Fort Worth is second at 19.4% and Allen is third at 19.2%. Missouri is the lowest of any remaining team ranking fifth with a 12% success rate but they are tied for first with Allen killing 92.6% of the man advantage's against.

On the Other End

The Missouri Mavericks gained a measure of satisfaction in their Opening Round series against the Rapid City Rush as they erased a 2-0 series deficit to win four straight games and advance to the final four. The last team to earn a 2-0 series lead and lose the series was the Mavs who did so in last year's Conference Finals against the Fort Wayne Komets (lost series 4-3). Since the 2008-09 post-season, 21 times has a team jumped to a 2-0 advantage in a series and only six times has that team ended up losing the series.

This Date in Playoff History (April 12, 2003)
