Shooting Stars Sign Non-American Import Hason Ward

The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that they have signed Bajan born Hason Ward. Effective 2022, the CEBL announced each team will allocate one spot on its 10-man active roster to a non-American import - international player.

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 4.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 12.3 minutes per game over 51 games in two seasons with the Iowa State Cyclones. Prior to transferring to Iowa in 2022, Ward played three seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. During his sophomore year, he ranked second in the Atlantic-10 and 21st nationally in blocked shots per game. He was also named to the 2020-21 Atlantic-10 Conference All-Defensive Team.

The St. Thomas native is Scarborough's fifth player signing of the season. The Shooting Stars welcomed back 2023 champions Cat Barber, Kalif Young, Danilo Djuricic and Kyree Walker earlier this off-season.

The Shooting Stars open training camp on May 15. The reigning CEBL Champions play their first game of the season on May 24 at the Canada Life Centre where they will take on the Winnipeg Sea Bears. Scarborough welcomes the Niagara River Lions to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre on June 1 for their home opener and championship banner drop.
