April 15, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - The Spokane Shock have maintained their hold on the No. 1 ranking in the Week 4 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. Spokane collected 382 of a possible 384 points and 23-of-25 first place votes in securing the top spot for the fifth consecutive week. The Shock improved to 2-0 with a 62-32 home win on Saturday against West Division and in-state rival Tri-Cities.
Arkansas (3-0, 337 points, 1 first place) moved up one spot this week to No. 2 after a 77-64 home victory against Rio Grande Valley. Oklahoma City (3-0, 330 points) and Iowa (3-0, 314 points) also moved up one position apiece to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, after notching impressive Week 3 wins. Boise is a new entry into the Top-5 this week. The Burn (2-0, 254 points, 1 first place vote) improved five spots from No. 10 to No. 5 after earning a respectable road win at Bossier-Shreveport, 54-45. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was the lone team to drop out of the Top-5 this week. The Pioneers (2-1) slipped from No. 2 to No. 7 after a 63-56 road loss at Kentucky.
Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification. The complete Top 16 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
