Spokane News Release

June 4, 2008 - Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Jeff Van Orsow and DB Mitchell Dukes have been added to their 2008 roster.

Van Orsow, 6-4 270, finished his collegiate career in 2007 at Oregon State University. As a senior, he was selected to the All-Pac-10 Conference Second Team and was named All-Pac-10 team Honorable Mention in 2006. This capped off a four-year career at OSU where Van Orsow recorded 137 total tackles--including 29.5 for a loss--with nine sacks.

In 2007, Van Orsow was a candidate for the Lott trophy, a distinguished award that recognizes student-athletes for personal character, leadership qualities, community service and academic accomplishments.

"At OSU, Jeff made a name for himself on the field and off it and that's the type of players we have on our roster," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "Anytime, you can add a two time All Pac-10 player to your roster, you have to take a look at him. He will add tremendous character and depth to our football team."

Dukes, 6-0 185, finished his collegiate career at Western Carolina in 2006. Dukes appeared in 39 games over his four-year career and recorded 142 total tackles with four interceptions and 8.5 sacks (including 6.5 his junior season).

"With the injury to Tremaine Tyler Mitchell Dukes is here at the perfect time. He has the ability to do a lot of things in the secondary that we need." Shackleford said.

Van Orsow and Dukes are not expected to be active for this weekend's game against the Boise Burn. The pre-game show begins at 6:30 PM PST and will be carried on live on 101.1 FM. The undefeated Shock return home on June 21st as they take on the South Georgia Wildcats for the first time in franchise history. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
