Calgary's Shawn Evans, Minnesota's Jordan MacIntosh, Washington's Mike Grimes, Buffalo's Dhane Smith all recognized for play in regular season finale
The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Week awards for Week #16, which featured four games last Saturday in the 2013 NLL regular season finale, capping off one of the most competitive seasons in league history with the first round of the playoffs set for this weekend.
Calgary Roughnecks forward Shawn Evans, who won the league's scoring title with 112 points (32+80) and led the NLL with 80 assists, won the Offensive Player of the Week award after recording 10 points (1+9) and scoring the game-winning overtime goal to help Calgary clinch the West Division regular season title.
Minnesota Swarm transition player Jordan MacIntosh, who finished the year ranked second in the league in loose balls (197) and fourth in faceoffs won (241), won his fourth-straight Transition Player of the Week award and earned the distinction for the sixth time this season.
Washington Stealth defenseman Mike Grimes, who ranked second among NLL defensemen with 20 points (8+12) and finished third among defenders with eight goals and 95 loose balls this season, won the Defensive Player of the Week award after helping his team clinch a home playoff game with a win.
Buffalo Bandits forward Dhane Smith, who finished fifth in NLL rookie scoring this year with 44 points (24+20) and scored 24 goals this year, which led his team and tied for third in the league among rookies, won the Rookie of the Week award after scoring a hat trick in the regular season finale.
Offensive Player of the Week
Shawn Evans, Calgary Roughnecks (1G, 9A, 10 PTS, 5 LB): Evans recorded 10 points (1+9), including the game-winning overtime goal, and five loose balls in Calgary's 12-11 OT win at Edmonton on Saturday.
Transition Player of the Week
J ordan MacIntosh, Minnesota Swarm (1G, 3A, 4 PTS, 24 LB, 2 FT): MacIntosh recorded four points (1+3), 24 loose balls, two forced turnovers and went 22-for-34 (65%) on faceoffs in Minnesota's 16-14 loss vs. Colorado on Saturday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Mike Grimes, Washington Stealth (1G, 1A, 2 PTS, 7 LB, 1 FT): Grimes recorded two points (1+1), seven loose balls and one forced turnover in Washington's 17-13 win vs. Philadelphia on Saturday.
Rookie of the Week
Dhane Smith, Buffalo Bandits (3G, 1A, 4 PTS, 4 LB): Smith recorded four points (3+1) and four loose balls in Buffalo's 10-9 loss vs. Rochester on Saturday.
The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
