Shamrocks Announce Head Coach

WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 6, 2011)- The North American Lacrosse League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Shamrocks announced today that their new head coach for the 2012 season will be Barry Powless.

Powless is no stranger to the lacrosse world. He played attack for Syracuse University and later went on to play for the NLL's Buffalo Renegades and the MILL's World Champions, the Buffalo Bandits.

"We are thrilled to have such an experienced player and coach lead the Shamrocks in their upcoming season," said Jim Jennings, owner of the team. "It's going to be a great season."

Starting his coaching career in 1990, Powless has held a variety of prominent roles within the lacrosse world. He is the former head coach for the Rochester Knighthawks, and the former assistant coach of the 2003 silver metal winning team, the Iroquois Nationals.

"I plan on bringing a winning team to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton region," said Powless. "I'm excited, my family is excited, and I believe you are going to see some of the toughest players in the league on the shamrocks. We will not be pushed around, and our team will create a lot of skill and excitement for the fans."

-more- The Shamrocks also announced the teams' assistant coaches today. Cameron Bomberry and David Bray will be coaching alongside Powless in January.

Bomberry has coached lacrosse since 1995 and has lead many teams to win Gold and Silver medals in National tournaments as well as brought teams to win World Championships.

Bray played lacrosse at Cornell University. He served on the Iroquois Nationals Board of Directors and was the assistant coach of the Newton Golden Eagles Lacrosse team. He was inducted into the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.

All three coaches are ready to start their first season with the Shamrocks and hope they will add the team to their list of league champions.
