Binghamton Senators News Release
Friday night in Binghamton, the Senators opened a three-game series against the Binghamton Mets with a 7-4 win. The Senators scored four runs on wild pitches, three of them coming in their five-run second inning, to win their second straight ballgame.
Harrisburg batted around in the second inning, scoring five runs on six hits with three of the five runs scoring on wild pitches. Stephen King and starting pitcher Jeff Mandel both had run scoring hits in the inning.
After the B-Mets closed to 5-3, the Senators scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning with another run scoring on a wild pitch and a run scoring on a ground out off the bat of Tim Pahuta.
Harrisburg withstood two Binghamton rallies, one in the eighth and then again in the ninth for the win. Binghamton loaded the bases on three walks issued by Ryan Tatusko in the eighth, but Hector Nelo pitched out of trouble allowing just a single run on a ground out.
With Nelo on the mound in the ninth, after there were two outs and no one on base, he allowed a single and then issued back to back walks. Erik Davis came on and struck out Jefry Marte to finish the game. Davis not only picked up his first save this year, but his first career save as well.
Jeff Mandel started and pitched the first six innings, allowing seven hits but only three runs in moving to 3-1 on the season.
The Senators improved to 16-12 with the win while the B-Mets fell to 13-14.
Jeff Kobernus had two hits and three more stolen bases in the game. He has an Eastern League leading 22 stolen bases.
Game two of the three-game series is Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. with LH Danny Rosenbaum on the mound for the Senators against LH Darin Gorski for the B-Mets. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on all mobile devices through iHeart Radio beginning at 1:45 p.m.
