SEHL Off to Strong Start

October 28, 2003 - South East Hockey League (SEHL) News Release


The South East Hockey League had a successful opening weekend as three of the league's cities had their home openers. On Friday night (10/24), Knoxville had a solid opening crowd of 3225 at the Knoxville Civic Center while Winston-Salem more than doubled their home opening attendance from last season as 1223 attended at the Joel Coliseum Annex. And on Saturday night (10/25), Cape Fear had the largest home opener in Fayetteville hockey history as 6699 were in attendance at the Crown Coliseum.

Huntsville remains on the road this week. Their home opener at the Von Braun Civic Center won't occur until Saturday, November 8th. Winston-Salem begins a nine game road trip this week.

SEHL Player of the Week

Dan Buccella of the Huntsville Channel Cats is the South East Hockey League Player of the Week. The Channel Cats got off to a perfect 2-0 start last week and in those two games Buccella, a native of Woodbridge, Ontario, scored four goals and added two assists for six points on the week. He had the game winning goal in both of Huntsville's two games.

SEHL Goaltender of the Week

Cam McCormick of Winston-Salem is the South East Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Winston-Salem also is undefeated at 2-0 on the young season and McCormick was one of the reasons why. After two games played the Kamloops, British Columbia native has posted a 1.00 goals against average, an outstanding 97.4% save percentage, and already has a shutout on the year. McCormick stopped all 34 shots he faced on Saturday night in a 3-0 win over Knoxville.
