Metropolitan Riveters News Release

The Metropolitan Riveters have officially started Season 6, taking the ice with focus and determination. It was the first time head coach Ivo Mocek has had a rink full of Rivs in 8 months. The entire coaching staff was eager to see how all the off-season moves would fit together.

"Honestly, it didn't even feel like a first full team practice," Mocek said. "Players were ready and really set the bar high right from the start. I was pleasantly surprised how they all handled it, despite the fact there were a lot of conditioning and skating drills. It's great to know they were all following the summer workout plan from Lauren Paster at Parabolic, because it was a high pace practice. I am really excited to keep putting the work in with this team as I feel we will accomplish big things this season."

Practice was fast paced with veteran Riveters captain Madison Packer and forward Kendall Cornine excited to finally lace up their skates and shake off the rust. The Rivs new players had a palpable presence on the ice. Recently acquired Kelly Babstock had energy to spare, keeping her feet moving even between drills while Goaltender Sonjia Shelly was looking confident in net working with goalie coach Terry Jarkowsky.

"It was awesome getting back on the ice with the team, especially after such a long gap away from each other," Cornine said. "Practice was high energy and the team was connecting already. I'm looking forward to a great season with this group!"

Rebecca Russo made her homecoming with the team and former University of Vermont captain Sammy Kolowrat showed speed both on skates and with her shots as the team went through 3-on-3 and skating drills.

"It was an amazing feeling to finally be on the ice with everyone," Kolowrat said. "There was so much excitement and positive energy. I can't wait to see what the season holds!"

Overall, the enthusiasm for the season to begin, from players to staff, was tangible. Within every stride, every shot and every save, the team started to lay a foundation in their quest for another Isobel Cup.
