June 11, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Diego Loyal News Release
SAN DIEGO - San Diego Loyal SC was back home for the first time in nearly two months and it didn't disappoint. It had been 56 days since the Loyal faithful had seen its team in action. The wait was worth it as SD Loyal took down Hartford Athletic 3-0 Saturday at Torero Stadium.
Coach Landon Donovan's team returned from a three-match road trip to see its offense open up late in the first half. Charlie Adams (29th minute) and Thomas Amang (44th) each scored for SD Loyal in a slow start to a physical match. SD Loyal scored two first half goals against a Hartford Athletic team (2W-8L-2D, 8 points) that saw its head coach Harry Watling sent off with a red card early in the match.
Adams gave SD Loyal (7W-3L-4D, 25 points) the 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season when he sent in a left-footed blast after a Hartford turnover. He beat a diving Jimmy Slayton, the Hartford goalkeeper. Adams took a quick pass from Collin Martin, who stole the ball as the visitors tried to clear from the back.
Amang extended the SD Loyal lead to 2-0 when he sent in a low cross by Alejandro Guido, slotting it past Slayton to end a breakaway into the penalty box. Amang tapped the ball with his right foot from just outside the six-yard box for his fifth goal of the season. An own goal by Hartford's Rashawn Dally in the 83rd minute sealed the scoring.
SD Loyal adds three more points in the Western Conference standings as it continues with its best start in franchise history. The club will remain at home for its next three games and is set to host Las Vegas Lights on Sunday June 19 in this year's "619" day. Donovan's team will then face Indy Eleven (June 25) and Orange County SC (June 29).
