SD Loyal Signs Kyle Vassell Ahead of 2022 Season

San Diego, CA. - SD Loyal announced today it has signed Kyle Vassell from English League One side Cheltenham Town FC for the upcoming USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.

"We were fortunate to have Kyle train with us last summer and it was immediately clear that he is the type of player that could take us to the next level and help us win a championship," said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and Manager.

Vassell comes to San Diego from Cheltenham Town FC of England's League One. The 28-year-old played in 16 games with his former club last season while scoring two goals and brings over a decade of experience competing in the English football league system. The powerful striker spent time training with SD Loyal last year, leaving a strong lasting impression on the coaching staff. He joins Evan Conway and Nick Moon as another new striker for coach Landon Donovan's arsenal next season.

Vassell also brings international experience representing Northern Ireland. He received his first call up in October 2018 for Nation League matches. He made his debut against Austria on October 12, 2018, coming on as a substitute in the 77th minute.

SD Loyal begins the 2022 USL Championship regular season Saturday, March 12 against LA Galaxy II at Torero Stadium.
