Battle Creek Revolution News Release
(Battle Creek, MI) The Battle Creek Revolution Hockey Club, proud member of the All American Hockey League and affiliate of the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League, announce that Rob Schweyer has been named the Defensive Player of the Year in the AAHL. Schweyer becomes the second player in Revolution franchise history to win a season ending league award. Justin Grevious was named Goaltender of the Year following the 2008-09 season. The Defensive Player of the Year award is voted on by league staff and coaches.
The 35-year-old native of Simcoe, Ontario finished the season with twenty-eight points (9 goals, 19 assists) which placed him in the top five for points among defenseman in the AAHL. A natural forward, Schweyer began his junior career as member of the Owen Sound Platers of the OHL. Beginning his professional career as a member of the Greensboro Generals of the ECHL in the 1999-00 season, Schweyer also made stops in the CHL, UHL, ACHL, and WHA2 before joining the Battle Creek Revolution this past season.
"Rob was one of the first additions to the Revolution roster because of his veteran leadership and ability to play any position for the better of the team," stated Bobby Clouston, Director of Hockey Operations. "Rob is a power forward by trade that stepped up to play on the blue line to become one of the top defenders in the league."
With his ability to play forward and defense, Schweyer led by example on the ice and was one of the top all around players for the Revolution and league this season.
The hockey club is hard at work setting the foundation for a successful 2010-11 season, their third in Battle Creek. Revolution staff members and players will be making appearances throughout the community this summer as well. Season ticket packages for the 2010-11 season will be announced soon.
