Schedule announced for CBA's 63rd season

ALBANY, NY (October 6, 2008) - The oldest professional basketball league in the world will begin its 63rd consecutive season on Friday, December 12, as the Continental Basketball Association tips off the 2008-09 campaign with four games scheduled for opening weekend.
The five-team league will consist of one conference and made up of the following teams: Albany Patroons, East Kentucky Miners, Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, Minot Skyrockets, and Pittsburgh Xplosion. The teams will play a total of 80 regular season games this season. The 14-week season concludes on Sunday, March 15, and the CBA Playoffs commence on Wednesday, March 18.
"When faced with the building of the schedule each year, the CBA tries to do several things to insure success for out member teams, "said Commissioner Dennis Truax. "We look to maximize weekend dates for our franchises and to keep travel costs to a minimum. I feel we have been able to do that this season with 63 out of the 80 games on Thursday through Sunday with 54 of those games from Friday through Sunday. I think the fans will be happy with this schedule and the teams will be able to market very effectively this year."
The season officially launches when the CBA Champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry travel to Albany to face the Patroons on Friday, December 12. Also opening the same night in Pittsburgh is the Xplosion hosting the East Kentucky Miners. The Minot Skyrockets open their season on Sunday, December 15 when they travel to East Kentucky.
On February 10, the Pittsburgh will host the 25th CBA All-Star Classic in the modern era, which features the Long Distance Shootout, the Slam Dunk Competition, and the CBA All-Star Game.
Due to the overwhelming success of last year's Christmas-night game, the Albany Patroons will again play on Christmas against the East Kentucky Miners this season. Other games of interest include a Valentines Day contest in East Kentucky against the Patroons. The Cavalry visit the place where they won the 2008 CBA Championship for the first time when the travel to face the Skyrockets on January 21.
