San Jose Stealth News Release

Edmonton - Jeff Zywicki made a big impression in his NLL debut for the San Jose Stealth. The rookie forward, from the University of Massachusetts, scored three goals including the game winning shot three minutes into overtime giving the Stealth (1-0) a 10-9 victory over the Edmonton Rush (0-1).

The Stealth played a strong defensive game lead by their goalie Anthony Cosmo. The 2005 All-Star had 39 saves on 48 shots on goal. His stellar play in the net allowed his teammates to recover from an early deficit.

The game marked the first ever game for the expansion Rush and was played in front of an audience of 11,385 in Edmonton's Rexall Place.

Edmonton started the game strong, scoring three consecutive goals and holding the Stealth scoreless in the first quarter. In the second frame the Stealth battled back outscoring the Rush 4-2, and Edmonton would lead 5-4 at the half.

The San Jose defense clamped down in the third quarter holding Edmonton scoreless. The Stealth however could not pull away from the Rush only netting two goals of their own and led 6-5 at the end of the third quarter

To begin the final period, the teams split goals early before nearly seven minutes of scoreless play. Then with less then four minutes remaining in the contest, the teams began trading goals back and forth. With just over a minute left in regulation, Stealth forward Derek Malawsky scored his second goal of the night, giving San Jose a 9-8 lead. Malawsky, whose brother Curt is one of the Assistant Captains on the team, would end up leading all players with five points (2 goals, 3 assists)

Under pressure the Rush battled back and with just seventeen seconds remaining, forward Brad Dairon tied the game at nine as he scored his second goal of the evening. The game went into overtime where Zywicki quickly put an end to the game.
