San Diego's MacMillan Fined

July 3, 2003 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) News Release

ATLANTA (Thursday, July 3, 2003) - The Women's United Soccer Association Disciplinary Committee fined San Diego forward Shannon MacMillan for making negative, public comments on television, via a remote microphone, about the referee's decisions during the Sunday, June 29 match versus the San Jose CyberRays at Torero Stadium. MacMillan has been fined $200 for publicly criticizing the match's officiating.

WUSA policies state: "No team representative including but not limited to a team president, general manager, coach, player, or other employee shall publicly criticize any member club or its management, personnel, employees or coaches and/or any soccer official employed by the league; all complaints shall not be publicized directly or indirectly."

The WUSA Disciplinary Committee has warned MacMillan that should this issue arise again, the committee would be required render a stiffer decision with penalties to include a more severe fine and/or a suspension.
