August 19, 2002 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
San Diego Spirit News Release
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Spirit achieved a rare feat in professional sports during 2002, by increasing the average attendance in year two from their inaugural season. On the heels of the tremendous support from the San Diego community that turned Torero Stadium into one of the best soccer venues in the country for 10 home games last season, the team announced today that exclusive 2003 season ticket renewals or upgrades are now available through October 15.
The Spirit increased their average attendance to 5,883 from the mark of 5,714 of a year ago and 2002 season ticket holders will have the first chance to keep the most unique and exciting family sports entertainment ticket in town for all 11 Spirit home matches during the 2003 WUSA season.
"The Spirit organization was extremely proud to lead the league with the highest season ticket base for the 2002 season," stated Spirit director of operations & fan development Vicky Lynch. "It is known throughout the WUSA that Spirit fans are the most avid and dedicated supporters. We look forward to offering an attractive 2003 season ticket package to our fans and to leading the league in sales for the second consecutive year."
In addition to keeping their seats from last year, current holders will receive benefits including saving between 15-20% off day-of-game ticket prices and other premium benefits, such as an invitation to the "Meet the Team" event, 10% savings coupon on Spirit merchandise, and a discounted registration fee for select Spirit soccer camps. The exclusive renewal period for current season ticket holders will last through October 15. After the deadline, holders can still purchase tickets, but will lose their priority seating rights.
New season tickets are also currently on sale, based on availability. If a new buyer wants seats that are currently occupied by an existing ticket holder, they will have to wait until after October 15 for fulfillment, and must submit a $50 non-refundable per ticket deposit to secure their order.
Prices for 2003 season tickets featuring 11 home matches are $270 for the popular VIP seats, $170 for Category 1 seats, $130 for Category 2 seats and $110 for Category 3 seats.
The 21-game season will begin in April 2003. Individual game ticket prices will be announced at a later date.
