San Diego Legion Named Major League Rugby Team of the Week

April 30, 2018 - Major League Rugby (MLR) News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The San Diego Legion were named the Major League Rugby Team of the Week the league announced today. The Legion improved to 1-1, defeating the Utah Warriors, 31-24, at Torero Stadium on Sunday.

San Diego displayed a stark turnaround from Week 1 with improved play from the forward pack controlling the pace and tempo of the match en route to a victory. The Legion found themselves leading 12-0 before 10 minutes had expired from the game clock. Only leading 17-14 at the half, San Diego used a pair of second half tries to extend their lead to 31-17. Utah would make one more run at a comeback, but it was ultimately the home side prevailing in this Week 2 matchup.

Glendale's Zach Fenoglio earned Player of the Week honors. Fenoglio showed off tremendous versatility by starting the match at flanker and finishing at hooker. The Denver native converted a crucial try to help lift the Raptors over the Seattle Seawolves and start the season 2-0.
