San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that Hall of Fame selection, defensive back Clevan Thomas has earned weekly honors from the AFL for his performance this past Saturday in San Jose's 35-34 win over the Utah Blaze. Thomas was named Week 10's Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and is the fourth member of the SaberCats to be honored this season with a weekly award.
Thomas turned in a spectacular performance on the back end for San Jose. Overall, he finished with four tackles (all solo), three pass breakups and two interceptions. Both interceptions came just in time for San Jose, as each occurred in the SaberCats' end zone to prevent Utah scores. On the second interception, Thomas stepped in front of a pass to the sideline by Blaze quarterback Tommy Grady and took it 50 yards for the touchdown. The former Florida State Seminole is now tied for the league lead with eight interceptions, and with nine games remaining in 2013, is just five off the pace for his personal and the franchise single-season record of 13 (2003).
