
SaberCats Announce 24-Man Regular Season Roster

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced that they have finalized their 24-man roster heading into the first week of the 2014 season.
"There was a tremendous amount of competition in camp, and we are excited with how our roster has shaped up heading into the season," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "Our guys really came together as a team over the last two weeks, and everyone in our organization is eager to get the season underway."

Other SaberCats roster moves include: activated WR Reggie Gray, LB Francis Maka, FB JJ Payne, DL Luis Vasquez, and DL Jason Stewart off the physically unable to perform list; placed CB JC Neal, FB Wondell Rutledge, and WR Doug Williams on recallable reassignment; placed OL Dennis Godfrey, OL Zach McKnight and FB Derik Steiner on injured reserve; placed DB Kenny Okoro and WR Jarvis Williams on inactive reserve; and placed DL Keenan Mace on the refused to report list.
The team also announced that they have acquired defensive lineman Marc Schiechl from the Los Angeles KISS in exchange for defensive lineman Ollie Ogbu.
Schiechl (6-3, 270, Colorado Mines) is a two-year AFL veteran of the Spokane Shock. In 2013, he appeared in 14 games, notching 13 tackles and one-and-a-half sacks. As a rookie in 2012, Schiechl recorded ten tackles and one-and-a-half sacks. Over his career at Colorado Mines, he racked up 46 sacks in 47 games, and became the first three-time All-American in school history.
The SaberCats open the 2014 season on the road in Portland on Monday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. The game can be found nationally on TV on the CBS Sports Network and locally on the radio on KNBR 1050. The team returns home in Week 2 to face the Philadelphia Soul on Sunday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m.
