San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced that they have made a trade with the Cleveland Gladiators, exchanging claim order positioning for two-year Arena Football League veteran, defensive lineman Keenan Mace.
"Keenan has shown a proven ability for getting into the backfield," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We believe his experience and skill level will fit in very well with our defense."
The team also announced that they have reassigned quarterback Clay Belton, defensive back Brandon Driver, offensive lineman Gabriel Hampton, defensive lineman Maurice Hayes and kicker Jason Meyers.
Correspondingly, the team activated defensive lineman Terrance Carter, offensive lineman Rich Ranglin, wide receiver Rod Harper, and defensive backs Clevan Thomas and Ken Fontenette from the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Mace (6-3, 325, Lindenwood) spent the first two years of his AFL career with the Utah Blaze. As a rookie in 2012, he appeared in 11 games and recorded 18.5 tackles (15 solo) along with seven sacks. Last year, in 13 games, Mace racked up five sacks along with 11.5 tackles (eight solo).
In 2011, Mace played nine games with the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League, where he accumulated 43 tackles, including six sacks.
At Lindenwood, Mace appeared in 19 games over his four-year career, recording 50 tackles and one-and-a-half sacks. In 2010, as a senior, he earned Third-Team All-Heart of American recognition.
The SaberCats open the 2014 season on the road in Portland on Monday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m. The game can be found nationally on TV on the CBS Sports Network and locally on the radio on KNBR 1050. The team returns home in Week 2 to face the Philadelphia Soul on Sunday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m.
