San Jose Stealth News Release

EDMONTON, Alta. - The Edmonton Rush crept back into the West Division playoff picture with a convincing 12-5 win over the San Jose Stealth in National Lacrosse League action Mar. 29 at Rexall Place.

With the Edmonton win -- its second home victory in a row -- the Rush record improved to 3-7 on the campaign, while San Jose fell to 6-5.

A six-goal third quarter run for Edmonton blew the game wide open, highlighted by two shorthanded goals against the high-powered Stealth power-play.

The second of three meetings between the West Division rivals proved to be a physical contest as the game featured several hard body checks and two fights.

Edmonton's win also marked the franchise's fewest goals allowed in a game with five against (previously six) and largest margin of victory with a seven-goal difference (previously two goals).

Jimmy Quinlan sniped three goals and one assist for four points for Edmonton, while Dan Stroup and Chris McKay - in his Rush debut - both scored one goal and three assists. Jeff Zywicki (three goals) and Colin Doyle (three assists) paced San Jose.

Curtis Palidwor earned the win in net for Edmonton, making 35 saves and upping his record to 3-4, while Anthony Cosmo took the loss, falling to 4-4 on the season.

"They outplayed us in every facet of the game," said Stealth head coach Walt Christianson. "I though Curtis played very well for them too. It was a combination of them playing well and us playing awful."

The new-look Rush were without veterans Chris Gill, Mike Accursi and Matt Disher - all moved prior to the trade deadline, and featured newcomers Dan Teat, Ian Crashley and Matt King. General Manager Bob Hamley's moves paved the way for the victory as the new-look Rush gelled quickly in this contest.

After more than 10 minutes of scoreless play, Quinlan of the Rush sniped his 12th goal of the season, a power-play marker at 10:21 of the first quarter, before Crashley tallied his first in an Edmonton uniform, from Quinlan at 11:35 to put Edmonton up 2-0. San Jose's Zywicki then scored on the power-play with only three seconds remaining in the quarter to close the score to 2-1 in favour of Edmonton.

The two teams then traded goals as McKay fired his first goal of the season for Edmonton at 4:35 of the second quarter, while Zywicki replied with his second of the game and 35th of the season, just 26 seconds later making the score 3-2.

Edmonton then netted the next two goals as Lindsay Plunkett's hard shot dribbled through Cosmo's legs, while Mike Hominuck's diving shot from the crease found the twine at 7:58 of the quarter put the Rush up 5-2. Edmonton outshot San Jose 21-15 in the half.

The teams came out firing in the third quarter as another Edmonton newcomer, Dan Teat, tallied just 22 seconds in, before San Jose's Cam Sedgwick answered back with a hard blast over Palidwor's right shoulder at 1:24. The Rush then replied on Kyle Goundrey's marker at 3:04 to boost their lead to 7-3.

Dan Stroup made it an 8-3 contest with his 13th goal of the season, on a nifty underhand shot and then Quinlan's second goal of the game, on the power-play at 9:49, chased Cosmo from the San Jose net. Aaron Bold came in relief of Cosmo with Edmonton up 9-3.

Edmonton's fifth and sixth goals of the quarter came shorthanded as Rory Glaves (12:30) and Goundrey (13:43) scored the Rush's first two shorties of the season, en route to the 11-3 lead.

Zywicki then netted his hat-trick goal for the Stealth at 7:15 of the fourth quarter with assists coming from Tim Booth and Sean Morris, before Frank Resetarits tally at 11:59 made the score 11-5.

Edmonton's Quinlan then fired his hat-trick goal at 12:31 to close out the scoring.

The Rush next host the Calgary Roughnecks Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m., while San Jose travels to Portland to tangle with the LunberJax the same night.
