Detroit Fury News Release
ROSEMONT, IL-Billy Dicken passed for 147 yards and four touchdowns and Antonio Chatman scored two of his own, as the Chicago Rush embarrassed the Detroit Fury 53-17. Detroit dropped to a league-low 1-7, while the Rush climbed to 5-3.
In the opening quarter, Chicago pounced on the Fury scoring two quick TDs. Anthony Ladd pulled in a 17-yard Dicken pass at 7:49 before Lindsay Fleshman corralled a 39-yard bomb at 3:10. Cedric Walker intercepted Detroit's Scott Semptimphelter late in the quarter, setting the stage for an early Chicago score in the second.
Chicago continued to pound the Fury in the second stanza. Jamie McGourty rushed from the one-yard line into the endzone, 30 seconds into the quarter for the score, taking advantage of the previous frame's final play. Chatman returned a missed field goal by the Fury's Kraig Baker for a 58-yard TD, before newcomer David Cool added to Chicago's lead with a 36-yard field goal at 2:47. Chatman scored his second TD of the game, this time courtesy of a 16-yard toss from Dicken with 27 seconds left. Detroit finally got on the board when Baker drilled a 30-yard field goal as time expired in the half.
Fury Head Coach Mouse Davis saw enough of Semptimphelter and made the move to Nick Browder with two minutes remaining in the half. Browder didn't fair any better, as Detroit still struggled to get on the board.
In the third quarter Dameon Porter collected a 22-yard pass from Dicken at 14:05 before the Fury finally scored a touchdown, as Browder hit Chuck Levy on a 7-yard play with 54 seconds remaining.
The final quarter couldn't come soon enough for Detroit. McGourty rushed in his second of the game from the one-yard line. Levy scored his second of the game from Browder before Cool added a meaningless field goal that closed out the scoring.
Semptimphelter finished the night going 6-of-18 for 61 yards and two INTs before being pulled in favor of Browder, who passed for 110 yards (8-of-25), two touchdowns and two picks.
Detroit remains on the road next week when they travel to Conseco Fieldhouse for an 8 PM match up with the Indiana Firebirds on Friday, June 14. The Fury returns home to the Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday, June 22 when the Rush come calling. Game time is set for 7:30 PM. Tickets are available by calling (248) 377-0100 or by logging onto www.detroitfury.com.
