
Ruff Riders hang on for first home victory at Merrell Center, 53-47 over Alaska

KATY, TX - The Katy Ruff Riders (2-1) led from start to finish, and recovered an onside kick with just under one minute to play to secure their first home victory and second win of the season, 53-47 over the Alaska Wild (0-4) Sunday afternoon in front of 2,047 fans at the Merrell Center.
The win moved the Ruff Riders into a tie for third place with the Frisco Thunder (2-1) in the eight-team, Intense Football League standings. They trail only the Louisiana Swashbucklers (4-0), and the Corpus Christi Hammerheads (3-1), who each also won games this weekend.
Katy quarterback Albert Higgs completed 18 of 30 attempts for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Wideout Darrick Wallace was his favorite target once again, as he connected with the speedster for three scores, with the longest being a 29-yard strike that came on the last play of the first half that gave the Ruff Riders a 42-28 lead.
Wide receiver Se'e Poumele added a touchdown reception, while Carlos Alsup, Clay Woodard and Sammy Knight each also ran for one score apiece. Alaska quarterback David Short carried the ball seven times for 56 yards, and also passed for 153 yards and five TD's to keep his team in the game. The Wild closed the gap to just six points with 39n seconds left in the game, but Poumele recovered an onside kick attempt by the Wild that ended their chances.
