Rourke Russell Earns 1st Star of the Week
October 27, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
Rourke Russell has been named the South Division's 1st Star of the Week.
In two hard-fought games on the road against the Lone Star Brahmas this past weekend, the Wildcats came away with three out of four points and became the first team to defeat the Brahmas at the Nytex Sports Centre this season. The job could not have been done without the help of the Wildcats' youngest defenseman, Rourke Russell.
The Long Beach, California native scored his first goal as a Wildcat on Friday night to give the Wildcats their first overtime win of the season. On Saturday, the Miami University commit tallied another goal off a one-timer from the high slot. He scored two of the three goals the Wildcats managed to conjure up over the weekend against a very stingy Brahmas defense.
At just 17, Russell has begun to earn the trust of the Wildcats' coaching staff. "Rourke was able to come up with some very clutch plays for us this weekend," said Wildcats Assistant Coach and former NAHL defenseman Josh Nelson. "He's an extremely gifted defenseman who's been making strides over the first chunk of the season. We'll continue to strive for consistency from him and get the elevated play he's capable of bringing.
Russell now has six points in 11 games played in a Wildcats uniform.
