Ron Barnes Named Supervisor of Officials for Golden Baseball League

(Dublin, CA. November 19, 2007) The Golden Baseball League announced today that former Major League Umpire Ron Barnes has been named as the league's Supervisor of Officials for the 2008 season. As part of his responsibilities, Barnes will also run the umpire development program at the Arizona Winter League this coming February as well.

"We have been very impressed with Ron's officiating over the last three years as one of the top umpires in the league," said GBL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt. "We are very fortunate that he has the time and interest to move into the Umpire-In-Chief role to organize and supervisor the umpires in both the GBL and the Arizona Winter League for us."

Barnes has 21 years of professional baseball experience as an umpire, including over 700 Major League games and a year as a Major League Umpire Supervisor as well. He also has many years in the minor leagues, including 15 seasons as one of the top rated umpires in the AAA Pacific Coast League. He is also well known during the collegiate season as a leading umpire in Division 1, Division 3, and Junior College leagues throughout the western United States.

"I am very excited to put the best possible umpires on the GBL fields for this coming season," said Barnes. "I am already getting tremendous response from many outstanding professional and collegiate Division 1 experienced umpires that I will bring to the staff for 2008. I am also looking forward to developing a new pool of umpires through evaluation and instruction during the Arizona Winter League."
