Rockies 1B/3B Nevin, Tigers LHP Soto Named AFL Week 3 Players of the Week

(Rockies) and Mesa Solar Sox left-handed starting pitcher Gregory Soto (Tigers) are the Arizona Fall League's week three players of the week.

Nevin - MLB Pipeline's No. 11 Colorado prospect went 6-for-11 (.545) last week, hitting safely in his three appearances and posting two multi-hit games.

He stroked three triples, including two on October 23.

The AFL's leading hitter (.467) at the halfway mark of the season, Nevin also ranks first in on-base percentage (.553), slugging percentage (.700) and triples (3-tie) and fourth in RBI (12).

The Poway, CA native was selected by Colorado in the 38th round of the 2015 draft.

The four-year professional boasts a .305 career batting average in 236 minor- league games, including 62 doubles, 5 triples, 23 home runs and 132 RBI.

Playing for High-A Lancaster in the California League, the 6-4, 200-pound Nevin hit .328 in 100 games with 25 doubles, 1 triple, 13 homers and 62 RBI.

Nevin, 21, is the son of current New York Yankees third base coach and 12-year major leaguer Phil Nevin.

Soto - The 23-year-old Mesa lefty was 1-0 last week in two starts with an AFL high 11 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched. He allowed eight hits and three earned runs.

His 2.79 ERA in the two appearances was the league low among pitchers who worked at least six innings. He also ranked second in the league in innings pitched (16).

Through the season's first three weeks, the 6-1, 240-pounder from Haina, Dominican Republic was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in four starts.

Pipeline's No. 14 Detroit prospect spent 2018 at High-A Lakeland in the Florida State League, going 8-8 with a 4.45 ERA in 25 appearances (23 starts). He struck out 115 batters in 113.1 innings pitched.

The six-year professional boasts a 31-22 career record with a 3.37 ERA in 106 minor-legue appearances (89 starts) with 474 strikouts in 435.2 innings pitched.

Others - Also nominated for the third weekly AFL awards were Surprise RHP Scott Blewett (Royals), Glendale IF Yu Chang (Indians), Scottsdale OF Ronnie Dawson (Astros), Mesa SS Nico Hoerner (Cubs) and Salt River IF Carter Kieboom (Nationals).
