Rockford IceHogs named UHL Member Club of the Year

May 3, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that the Rockford IceHogs have been named the 2004-05 UHL Member Club of the Year as selected by the league's Board of Governors.

On the ice, the team experienced a significant turnaround from the prior season in which they compiled a 28-43-5 record. Under the direction of new head coach Steve Martinson, who was hired in June 2004, the IceHogs completed the 2004-05 campaign with a 46-25-9 record, a second place finish in the UHL Western Division, and a berth in the Colonial Cup Playoffs. The 46 victories were the most for the team since they have been in Rockford. The team also set highs in road wins, winning percentage, points, and tied the mark for most wins at home. During the regular season, Rockford loaned eight players to American Hockey League teams.

Additionally, the team will be the subject of a documentary film titled "RoadHogs: The Other Side of the Season." The film will give a behind the scene look at the team on the road portion of their schedule and is set to be released on DVD in August by seven11 Productions, a video production company located in Rockford.

Off the ice, the IceHogs raised over $50,000 in their Muscular Dystrophy Jersey Auction. In the six years of the event, the team and its fans have helped raise over $300,000 for the local MDA Chapter in the Rock River Valley.

The Rockford IceHogs experienced a 4% increase in average attendance from last season as a club record 147,717 fans saw the team play during the regular season.

The UHL Member Club of the Year is determined by the team's overall success both on and off the ice. The Member Club of the Year was first presented following the 1996-97 season.
