Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant will be featured in a live chat on NLL.com tonight at 8:00 p.m. Grant led the league in goals in 2006, and he's well on his way to repeating in 2007 after a nine-goal performance on Saturday against New York. Log in right here at NLL.com to chat live with John Grant.
Last weekend, Grant registered a league and franchise record 15 points (9+6) as Rochester defeated the New York Titans 22-18 at The Blue Cross Arena. His nine goals also tied his own record that he set on February 18, 2005 against Philadelphia.
His 15 points broke the NLL mark previously shared by three players: Derek Keenan, Gary Gait and Derek Malawsky. Keenan originally set the record on March 13, 1992, scoring 14 points (4+10) for the Buffalo Bandits, playing against Baltimore. Gait tied the record on January 9, 1999, playing for Baltimore, scoring 14 points on 10 goals and four assists against Buffalo. Most recently Malawsky scored 14 points on four goals and 10 assists playing for Buffalo against Philadelphia on January 20, 2001.
This week, the Knighthawks host the Chicago Shamrox at 7:35 p.m. on "Irish Night" on Saturday, February 3rd. Fans can listen to Irish music and enjoy a halftime game between the Irish National Lacrosse Team and the Irish Lacrosse Foundation.
The game is a battle for first place in the East Division. Rochester (4-2) and the expansion Shamrox (3-1) are currently tied for the division lead. The contest will be broadcast live on B2 Networks and air tape delayed on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26. The game against Chicago is the first ever meeting between the two teams. Last weekend, the Shamrox edged the San Jose Stealth 11-10 on January 26th. On offense, the Shamrox are led by Jason Clark (6+15) and Jon Harasym (3+14). Goalie Brandon Miller is 3-1 with a 10.75 goals-against average.
Rochester counters with the top scoring offense in the league, netting 90 goals over six games. Grant leads the NLL with 38 points (16+22) in five games. Scott Evans is also third (32) and Shawn Williams is tied for fourth (31). Further, goalie Pat O'Toole leads the league with 212 saves and is tied with a league-high four wins.
Next week, Rochester remains at home to host the Portland LumberJax on Saturday, February 17th at 7:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Pat O'Toole card courtesy of Nathaniel's Pub.
