(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (1-1) defeated the Chicago Soul (1-3) 18-16 in overtime this evening. The Lancers were led offensively by player/assistant coach Doug Miller who tallied four goals and nine points and Mauricio Salles who had two goals and an assist for a six point night. Rey "Boom Boom" Martinez would provide the overtime game winning goal for the hosts.

The Lancers got off to a strong start outscoring Chicago 6-0 in the first quarter. Salles opened the scoring when he put home a rebound of an Ivory Washington shot. Miller then scored a pair of goals. The first was a penalty shootout goal after he was fouled by former Lancer William Kletzien. Then Miller scored off a beautiful pass from Troy Cole.

The second quarter was all Chicago with Cuitlahuac Meza and Carlos Munoz converting Power Play goals that were separated by a Bato Radoncic even strength goal to make the score at 6-6 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Soul would extend their lead to 12-6 on goals by Meza, Munoz, and Radoncic before Salles scored a 3-point goal just before the end of the quarter to pull the Lancers within three points at 12-9 heading into the final quarter of play.

There were plenty of fireworks in the fourth quarter. Miller tied it at twelve with a 3-point goal. Then Jeremy Ortiz put the Lancers back into the lead off an assist from Salles. Roberto Gallo would score Chicago's third powerplay goal of the evening to tie the game. Then Miller would score his fourth of the night from Ortiz to give the Lancers the lead with under a minute left in regulation. However, Gallo would score his second of the night from Radoncic to send the game to overtime.

The overtime game winner would start when Brayton Knapp tackled the ball away. Luis Enrique fed Martinez who would put away the final tally in the Lancers 18-16 win.
