Robinson wins second offensive prize of 2006
April 25, 2006 - National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release
FRANKFURT Galaxy running back ROGER ROBINSON (Arizona Cardinals) has been named Offensive Player of Week 6, marking the second time he has won the prize this season.
Robinson carried the football 27 times for 146 yards and scored on a 1-yard run as the Galaxy edged to an 18-17 victory over the Berlin Thunder on Saturday night. The speedy rusher also caught 3 passes for 45 yards with a long of 32.
On Frankfurt's game-winning drive, Robinson carried 5 times for 47 yards and added a 6-yard catch. Despite missing a Week 5 defeat of Hamburg with a head injury, Robinson remains on pace to rush for 1,037 yards this season, which would place him second on the all-time charts behind Mike Green (Barcelona Dragons, 2001), who rushed for 1,057 yards.
Robinson has four 100-yard rushing games in five appearances this season and Frankfurt has gone 3-1 in those contests. He needs two more 100-yard outings to tie the league record of six in a single season set by the Rhein Fire's Joe Smith in 2005.
Robinson said: "Going into the Berlin game I felt fresher and it may have been a blessing in disguise to have a week off to help my body heal. Their defense came out to stop the run but our offensive line wore them down and as the game went on it was getting easier to run the football."
Hamburg Sea Devils cornerback RAYSHUN REED was named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in his club's 20-17 loss at the hands of the Cologne Centurions.
Reed registered 2 tackles, intercepted 2 passes for 29 yards and forced and recovered a fumble, returning it 30 yards to the end zone for a touchdown.
Through the opening six weeks of the 2006 campaign, Reed has grabbed 3 interceptions for 92 yards and 1 touchdown, has added 1 fumble return for a score, 19 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 8 passes defended.
Frankfurt Galaxy kicker DAVID KIMBALL (Oakland Raiders) was named Special Teams Player of the Week after he kicked his team to victory with a 25-yard field goal against Berlin with two seconds remaining.
Kimball also landed field goals from 21, 35 and 39 yards as the Galaxy improved to 4-2 on the year.
"I was nervous but you have to block it out and think of it as any other field goal," Kimball said of his game-winning kick. "I have made that kick a million times in practice so I just blocked everything out and made a good kick. I had confidence I would make it but I am grateful to Roger Robinson and the offensive line for getting me in a good position."
Kimball ranks second among NFLEL kickers with 41 points having converted 10 of 15 field goals (49 long) and 11 of 11 PATs this term.
English wide receiver SCOTT McCREADY was named National Player of the Week after he caught a team-high 6 passes for 139 yards for the Hamburg Sea Devils against the Cologne Centurions.
The former New England Patriots Super Bowl-winning wide receiver won three Player of the Week awards in 2005 and picked up the prize in Week 2 of the 2006 campaign. With four weeks of the regular season remaining, McCready ranks second in NFL Europe with 24 receptions for 309 yards. He also ranks second on NFL Europe's all-time receiving charts with 165 catches for 1,902 yards.
